Someone on the Squire Editions team saw Nimbus on Instagram and reached out to Chris Rhodes, Nimbus Territory Manager for the UK & Ireland. That is how it started.
For those who do not know them: Squire Editions, based in Chichester, builds some of the most premium custom Defenders in the world. Full repaints, billet packs, panoramic roofs, custom audio, intercooler and pipework upgrades, complete interior rebuilds. Every truck they deliver is better than the last one. That is their standard, and when you look at their work, you understand it is not marketing language.
Their builds have evolved to a point where every component in the vehicle sits at a very high level. The suspension needed to match. They had been fitting good setups, and those setups worked well. But as Stu Ray, their workshop manager, put it: “They were absolutely fine. But they weren’t quite nice enough for where we evolved to.”
So Killian flew to England and spent two days at their workshop. Tuning the settings, mounting, dismounting, test driving, adjusting with the Squire team. The goal was a version of Erebus calibrated for the Squire profile: road-dominant use, comfort-first, paired with Alive road-spec comfort springs. A setup that makes a Defender drive the way their clients expect everything else in the truck to feel.
Built for the full spectrum
The truck we worked on is a Defender 110 with a TD4, mapped with an upgraded intercooler and pipework. But Squire builds vehicles across a wide range of specs. Some of their projects run Corvette engine swaps pushing north of 700 horsepower. The version of Erebus we developed for them needs to work across that entire spectrum, from a refined TD4 tourer to a vehicle with five times the power. Comfort and refinement were the priority on this build. Off-road capability was never on the negotiating table.
Two days of back and forth until Stu and the team were happy with the result. After the final test drive, Stu said: “It’s not like driving an old Defender anymore. It’s driving like a car now.”
That means something, coming from someone who has built dozens of these trucks and driven every suspension configuration that has passed through his shop.
The build, in their words

A privilege, not a transaction
Working with Squire Editions has been a genuine privilege. The level of craft, the obsession with getting every detail right, the refusal to release a truck that is merely good: that is exactly the standard we hold ourselves to at Nimbus. When a builder of that caliber chooses to work with us, it confirms we are approaching where we want to be.
This is the first Squire Edition on Nimbus, and it is quite unique. The next steps on this truck include their own custom big brake kit and a set of bespoke wheels. When the full package comes together, it will be something to see.
Come see it
We often have clients asking where they can see Nimbus in person. The truck will be at Cars & Coffee on Sunday, April 12th, 9 AM to 12 PM. Squire Editions, Unit 2 Leigh Road, Chichester, PO19 8TT. Come see it in person. Talk to the Squire Editions team — they are incredibly kind and knowledgeable when it comes to Land Rover Defenders.
